ABOUT MORGAN

Morgan Rakay, MA, LPC, BC-DMT is a licensed professional counselor and board certified dance/movement therapist with over 10 years of experience. Morgan received her MA in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling from Drexel University, and has continued to be active in research, education, and advocacy. Morgan is a former board member of the PA Chapter of the American Dance Therapy Association.

Clinical Work

Morgan has provided dance/movement psychotherapy and counseling in settings such as schools, hospitals, outpatient clinics, and private practice. Throughout her career, Morgan has focused on research, advocacy, and clinical service to provide meaningful therapy for family caregivers and individuals with chronic, progressive, and advance illness as well as chronic pain and traumatic injury. Morgan is additionally trained in Grief Counseling, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. She has worked with children, families, and adults with a range of needs including ADHD, anxiety, depression, medical concerns, loss, and trauma histories.

Dance and Movement

Morgan holds a BFA in dance from the Honors Tutorial College at Ohio University, which provided opportunity for independent study and research including at Gallaudet U., Ghana, South Africa, and Italy. Morgan earned added certification in Hearing, Speech, and Language Sciences and African Studies. Morgan continues to dance and choreograph professionally, is an alumna of Azaguno African Drumming and Dance Ensemble and Pink Hair Affair, and an active member of DanceEthos Performance Company.

Teaching and Supervision

Morgan holds an adjunct faculty position at Drexel University where she provides supervision to graduate students in the dance therapy program and is involved in clinical research. Morgan was previously adjunct faculty with Jefferson University’s Community & Trauma Counseling program. She additionally provides clinical supervision for professionals seeking board certification in dance/movement therapy and state counseling licensure in PA.

TeleTherapy and Online Counseling

Teletherapy is a meaningful resource for individuals who may otherwise have difficulty accessing therapy in an environment or at a time that meets their needs.  With the rapid growth and development of teletherapy in recent years, it has become important to understand secure and ethical use of technology in sessions. Morgan has a significant history in providing online and telehealth counseling to individuals and families, and continues to provide training in ethical, effective teletherapy approaches to mental health organizations throughout the Greater Philadelphia Area and Lehigh Valley.  Morgan previously served as Clinical Director & Head of Clinical Development for a start-up telecounseling platform from 2019-2022.
